How to Fix Swapping CPU and MOBO for Hackintosh build

Graphics issues usually stem from an unsupported GPU, missing acceleration patches, or incorrect boot arguments.

Quick Fix Steps

  1. Verify GPU support: Check if your GPU model is natively supported in your target macOS version via WhateverGreen documentation.
  2. Update kexts: Ensure Lilu and WhateverGreen are current and loaded before other GPU-related kexts.
  3. Check boot arguments: Add -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 for debugging, or agdpmod=pikera for modern AMD cards.
  4. Test Metal support: Open About This Mac > System Report > Graphics and confirm Metal is listed.

Verification

  • Graphics acceleration is smooth (not CPU-bound).
  • Metal is reported in System Information.
  • No GPU-related kernel panics on boot.

Original Question: "Swapping CPU and MOBO for Hackintosh build"

Hello Reddit!

I'm about to build my first Hackintosh. I wanted to ask you guys one question because sometimes it's difficult to decide by yourself !

So, currently my PC looks like this :

  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
  • Asus ROG Strix b450-F Gaming
  • RX 5700xt (Sapphire Nitro+)
  • 16gb DDR4 3200 Hz RAM
  • Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU Cooler

I was thinking about selling the MOBO and the processor. I'd also like to get some fancy liquid cooling and add some ram. I'm planning to keep the GPU.

I was thinking about getting Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra as new MOBO alongside of Intel i7 9700 or 10700 CPU.

I don't know if it's really worth it, that's why I'd like to have your opinion on this. Thank you a lot for any response.

Stay safe!
