Im making an attempt at this for the very first time! Working my way through the instructions, managed to compile all the components and turned it on and it didn't blow up... win!
These are my components:
GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS ELITE LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard
Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E Dual HDMI / DVI-D / Dual DP OC w/ Backplate (UEFI), 100411P8GOCL
Intel Core i9-9900K Coffee Lake 8-Core, 16-Thread, 3.6 GHz (5.0 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 95W BX806849900K Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630
Now I've hit a road block. I have followed the instructions in:
UniBeast: Install macOS Catalina on Any Supported Intel-based PC
In regards to the BIOS setttings whilst following these instructions:
- To access BIOS/UEFI Setup, press and hold Delete on a USB Keyboard while the system is booting up
- Load Optimized Defaults
- If your CPU supports VT-d, disable it
- If your system has CFG-Lock, disable it
- If your system has Secure Boot Mode, disable it
- Set OS Type to Other OS
- If your system has IO Serial Port, disable it
- Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled
- If you have a 6 series or x58 system with AWARD BIOS, disable USB 3.0
- Save and exit.
I was able to achieve most of it except:
- If your system has IO Serial Port, disable it
- Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled
I couldn't locate those things on my system, also don't know how to establish if my system is x58 AWARD BIOS and so don't know if I need to do anything about the USB 3.0.
In regards to the Secure Boot Mode, in order to disable that I need to disable CSM support.
When I put these settings in, then save and restart I get a message back saying 'no boot device found'.
If I put the CSM support back on it can read my device, but interestingly it reads it as it's previous name not the new name given to it from making the unibeast boot disk. When I click on that it attempts to boot from it but comes back with 'error loading operating system'.
I read that the USB stick could be the problem so I have tried a couple of different ones, but that had no effect.
I have also tried different variations on the BIOS setup that I have read, but keep getting the same message, except that once or twice it has come back with 'no operating system found'.
I could really use some help here, Im sure Im doing something stupid, but I just don't know what it is.
