How to Fix Do you guys repeat the vanilla guide to update MacOS on a working hackintosh

Graphics issues usually stem from an unsupported GPU, missing acceleration patches, or incorrect boot arguments.

Quick Fix Steps

  1. Verify GPU support: Check if your GPU is natively supported via WhateverGreen docs.
  2. Update kexts: Ensure Lilu and WhateverGreen are current.
  3. Check boot arguments: Add -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 for debugging, or agdpmod=pikera for AMD.
  4. Test Metal: About This Mac > System Report > Graphics.

Verification

  • Graphics acceleration is smooth.
  • Metal is reported in System Information.

Original Question: "Do you guys repeat the vanilla guide to update MacOS on a working hackintosh?"

I want to upgrade my hackintosh running Mojave 10.14.2 on Clover, but I want to keep my existing data - so I don't want a 'clean build'.

Catalina is no longer available in the app store so I guess I will have to try Big Sur, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. My hardware is pretty standard - Intel i7-9700K and Radeon RX 5800.

I'm pretty sure I can't just auto-install from the app store and expect it to work so I guess I need to build the install from scratch again, right? But will that give me the option to 'update existing MacOS' rather than replace it?
