How to Fix i5-6500 + GTX 960 + Big Sur, would it work
Graphics issues usually stem from an unsupported GPU, missing acceleration patches, or incorrect boot arguments.
Quick Fix Steps
- Verify GPU support: Check if your GPU is natively supported via WhateverGreen docs.
- Update kexts: Ensure Lilu and WhateverGreen are current.
- Check boot arguments: Add
-v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100for debugging, oragdpmod=pikerafor AMD. - Test Metal: About This Mac > System Report > Graphics.
Verification
- Graphics acceleration is smooth.
- Metal is reported in System Information.

Original Question: "i5-6500 + GTX 960 + Big Sur, would it work?"
Hi!
I've been somewhat confused when it comes to Big Sur. I'm forced to use it otherwise I won't be able to publish apps to the store from XCode, but I'm stuck with the HD 530 this i5-6500 has. I do have a spare GTX 960 I can put on the machine, but for some reason I was unable to install the NVIDIA Web Drivers saying it's uncompatible with the Mac OS version.
Is there a known workaround to have the GTX 960 work in it? That way I can use the dGPU instead and have sleep working as intended plus use some of the hardware acceleration for the emulators and whatnot.
Thanks in advance!
