Hackintosh GPU Guide: Opencore installer won't go past this line when booting

Graphics issues usually stem from an unsupported GPU, missing acceleration patches, or incorrect boot arguments. Below is a systematic approach to diagnosing and fixing them.

Step 1 — Verify GPU Compatibility

Check if your GPU model is natively supported in your target macOS version. AMD Radeon RX 400/500/5000 series generally work natively. NVIDIA support ended at High Sierra for most cards.

Step 2 — Update Essential Kexts

Ensure Lilu and WhateverGreen are installed and current.

Step 3 — Configure Boot Arguments

Add -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 for debugging. For AMD cards add agdpmod=pikera.

Step 4 — Confirm Metal Support

Open About This Mac > System Report > Graphics/Displays. Metal support should be listed.

Expected Results

  • Graphics acceleration is smooth
  • Correct resolution on all displays
  • No GPU-related kernel panics

Original Question: "Opencore installer won't go past this line when booting"

My EFI is as clean as it gets, plus config plist, I've followed the guide from dortania to a dot, I don't have any extra kexts other than virtualsmc/whatevergreen. This happens when trying to boot catalina.

My specs are:

i7-7700 16GB RAM Sapphire Nitro RX580 8GB

Any help is appreciated. Opencore log is included here.
