How to Fix Two stage GUI boot?

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Boot with -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 to identify the exact kernel panic.
  2. Validate your config.plist using ocvalidate.
  3. Ensure your EFI matches the Dortania guide specifications for your CPU generation.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

Can anyone shed some light on what I'm seeing, explanation below.

After I press the power on button.

I see a high resolution, looks like it's 3840x2160 (4K) Apple logo and a progress bar

Progress bar gets to about 1/3 of the way through the boot process then a black screen

Then a much larger Apple logo and progress bar.

Any idea why the two stage GUI boot and if it's possible see only a single before the login prompt ?
