How to Fix ALC892 Low Volume After Sleep

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

I just managed to get onboard sound working on my hack (used to be using usb) and for some reason after sleep my headphones are much quieter. There's no other issues such as audio glitches or instability, its just about a quarter of the volume it should be. Additionally, sleep itself has no issues such as kernel panics or otherwise. My computer sleeps and wakes perfectly apart from this issue. The issue can be fixed by a reboot, but that's kinda annoying.
System:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: Rx 580
Audio: Realtek ALC892
Mobo: MSI B350 PC MATE
AppleALC Layout ID: 4
