How to Fix i3-10100 graphics and Logic Pro X in Catalina

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

I'm having trouble with Logic and the built in Intel 630 graphics. Unexpectedly quits. I guessed it was graphics-related, so I grabbed my RX570 and tried that. No unexpected quit. So I thought I'd get an Nvidia GT710 (Kepler) as they work out of the box and they're cheap. Back to Logic unexpectedly quitting again. Can anyone explain? Is it a hardware acceleration issue? Is there a way of getting either the integrated graphics or the GT710 to work with Logic Pro X? Can't afford an expensive card for it. Built this for my friend and she is mainly going to use it with Logic! Thanks in advance.
