How to Fix Big Sur: everything seems fine except desktop background
This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Prerequisites
- Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
- Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.
Fix Steps
- Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
- Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
- Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.
Verification
- Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.
Original Question:
For some background pictures, the right side seems to be garbled (see attached screenshot). But some pictures seem to be fine. If I open those pictures under /System/Library/Desktop Pictures with Preview, they are also correctly displayed.
I have not observed anything else out of order. But it's kinda weird. I didn't have this issue on previous versions. I've been running Hackintosh on this machine since 2016.
Any ideas what's going on or should I be worried? Thanks.
Spec: Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5, Skylake 6700K, GeForce GT730 dGPU, OpenCore 0.6.6, Big Sur 11.2.2
