This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Verify your network controller model (Intel, Broadcom, Realtek).
  2. Ensure the correct kext (e.g., AirportItlwm or BrcmPatchRAM) is loaded in your config.
  3. Clear network interfaces and reset NVRAM if changes don't apply.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

Hello! I’m a 2nd year CS student. Last summer, I successfully hackintoshed my laptop, and really enjoyed using macOS. However, my laptop was not very powerful, and using it daily was not practical, as it ran pretty hot when running several tabs alongside vscode and Xcode, and had several issues such as trackpad not working and battery indicator missing (tried to solve for several weeks, decided it wasn’t worth it). Flash forward to today, I really miss the macOS experience. I’m wondering if it’s more worth it to save up for the next MacBook Pro rumoured to release in April, or to hackintosh my desktop, which would only require that I get a new ssd and wifi card. My desktop specs are: - ryzen 2600x - asus rx580 4gb - 16 gb 3200mhz ram - gigabyte a320

Also a bit curious how other ppl use windows and macOS together daily. In my mind, the ideal combination would be a macOS laptop for school, programming and productivity, and a windows desktop for gaming. Thanks in advance for your inputs! TLDR: save up for next ARM MacBook Pro (pricey but reliable) or hackintosh current ryzen desktop (cheaper but more involved)
