How to Fix [OpenCore 0.6.7] Login Screen Loop After Installing Nvidia Webdriver for GTX 1060 6GB, High Sierra (17G14033)

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

My rig: MOBO: Aorus B450 M CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

I am able to install with SMBIOS iMac14,2. The build version initially was 17G66, but there is no available webdriver for this build, so I update security to build version 17G14033.

After installing the webdriver and reboot, the login screen showed up and freezed a few seconds, then black screen showed up with a few lines of log, one of the lines was gIOScreenLockState 3, then back to login screen and repeat.

I've tried few ways, but still not working: 1. Set SecureBoot -> Disabled 2. set boot arg with nvda_drv_vrl=1

Been struggling for days, really appreciate if anyone has idea on this issue.
