How to Fix Opencore hotkey to boot alternate option/second default at startup?

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Boot with -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 to identify the exact kernel panic.
  2. Validate your config.plist using ocvalidate.
  3. Ensure your EFI matches the Dortania guide specifications for your CPU generation.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

I have a dual-boot running Opencore 0.6.6. As it currently stands, it boots directly to windows from opencore if I don't hold down Option to launch picker, I can access and boot from my macos partition by launching the picker.

Since in this config I would only want to launch the picker to boot to MacOS, (Windows boots if I don't hold Opt) I'm trying to figure out if I can use a hotkey at startup to launch a different boot entry from my default (windows), rather than having to go to the picker menu and select it there. So if I launch without holding the button, opencore goes to Windows, if I hold down the button while starting, opencore goes to MacOS.

Is a configuration like this possible?
