How to Fix Screen blinks at the “Language” step

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

Hello everyone, I encounter a problem while trying to install macOS Big Sur on my Lenovo laptop (specs below). When the “Language” window comes up, it stays on my screen for like half a second, I have a black screen for 10 seconds or so, and it shows the “Language” screen again for half a second and this repeats indefinitely. I tried to plug my laptop to an external monitor but nothing shows up. Do you have any idea concerning the reasons of this behavior? Thanks.
