How to Fix ALC 294 Codec Issues/ Asus Zenbook Laptop

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

Hey all,

I created a bootable hack a couple of months ago and an issue daunting on me since then is my laptop's internal speakers. I'm running a Zenbook 15 with the following specs:

CPU: Intel I7 10510Y CPU @ 1.80 Whiskey Lake 1528 FCBGA Socket Quad Core

ASUSTeK UX534FTC American Mega Bios

16 Gbs DDR3 Dual

Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2

(GTX 1650 (don't intend to use at all for obvious reasons))

512gb NVME samsung SSD

Everything works except iMessage (for a later date) and audio. I'm really looking at tackling the audio problem first. I have ALC 294, it shows up in my Hackintool, and as internal speakers in the sound settings. However, when I load up a video, no actual audio is playing. My microphone sometimes works but is very inconsistent.

I've tried all the Layoutids available, updated AppleALC, tried SSDT patches with HDEF and other fixes, but have had no luck thus far. If anyone has any experience with ALC 294 or has pointers, I'd be grateful if you'd point them out to me.
