How to Fix Asus Z170-P, i5-6400, Catalina OpenCore. Plus Big Sur via Upgrade.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Verify your network controller model (Intel, Broadcom, Realtek).
  2. Ensure the correct kext (e.g., AirportItlwm or BrcmPatchRAM) is loaded in your config.
  3. Clear network interfaces and reset NVRAM if changes don't apply.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

  • RAM: 16 GB Vengeance LP
  • Motherboard/Laptop model: ASUS Z170-P
  • Audio Codec: Realtek ALC887/897 ID: 5 worked
  • Ethernet Card: Realtek® RTL8111H
  • Intel HD 530
  • What guide/tool followed: Dortania , Sharlion, duckduckgo.
  • What part I got an issue with: Big Sur – wouldn’t install - upgraded from Catalina OK but USB only available via port pins( connected to case). work In progress.Also seems BS is faster loading than Catalina..
  • What files/config I am using: screenshot
  • Extra Info: Newb tip, find a working EFI if you can, to base your structure on.
  • Installed on Kingston 120GB SSd then Cloned via Easus todo backup to Evo 970 + 1tb,thanks
