How to Fix Big Sur, OpenCore, Random freezing during vanilla clean installation

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Verify your network controller model (Intel, Broadcom, Realtek).
  2. Ensure the correct kext (e.g., AirportItlwm or BrcmPatchRAM) is loaded in your config.
  3. Clear network interfaces and reset NVRAM if changes don't apply.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Issue:

Hy everyone! I have an issue when installing Big Sur (latest version and clean installation ) I used the recommended kex, and config.plist described in the guide for my CPU and hardware, I didn't receive any kernel panic and I was able to reach the installation screen but I have a strange issue when I'm in the installer screen, everything is working fine but after 5 minutes the system freezes randomly, at the beginning I was thinking that the issue was related to my mouse and keyboard but then I realized that all the system was frozen so I wasn't able to finish the installation of Big Sur, attached is my EFI file if you want to check it. The SSDTs where made using SSDTTime, from what I noticed the issue might not be related to OpenCore but to the kext or config file parameters that I used, i already try to modify and add some parameters that wasn't on the guide but were recommended in slowgeek sanity checker but the result it's the same, I have been dealing with this a couple days so I would appreciate very much your help!
