macOS Sonoma/Ventura installation fails at “14 minutes remaining” on MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 (MacBookPro8,1)

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to install macOS Sonoma or Ventura on my MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 (MacBookPro8,1) using OpenCore Legacy Patcher (v2.4.1).

When the laptop still had its original HDD and 4 GB RAM, Sonoma installed and ran successfully.
After upgrading the hardware to 16 GB DDR3-1333 (2×8 GB) and a new 256 GB SATA III SSD, the installation now consistently fails.

Every attempt to install Sonoma or Ventura stops at around “14 minutes remaining” with the following error message:

"An error occurred while loading the update"

After the error, the SSD disappears from Disk Utility until I reboot. Once rebooted, it shows up again as normal.

Here’s what I’ve confirmed:

  • Booting through EFI Boot (OCLP)
  • SSD formatted as APFS, GUID Partition Map
  • System date and time are correct
  • The USB installer was freshly created and verified on another Mac
  • The same USB installer successfully installs macOS on a different drive
  • Both Sonoma and Ventura fail in the exact same way

I would appreciate any advice on what might cause the installer to fail at this stage, or if there are specific OCLP-related troubleshooting steps or logs I should check.

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.
