Upgrading iMac Late 2014 while Preserving BootCamp
Upgrading your 2014 iMac from Big Sur to macOS Sonoma (macOS 14) is entirely possible without re-installing your Windows partition, provided you manage the OpenCore EFI correctly.
Detailed Step-by-Step Guide:
- Backup Your Data: Before any major OS jump, ensure you have a Time Machine backup of macOS and a manual backup of critical Windows files.
- Update OCLP App: Download the latest OCLP version on your current Big Sur installation.
- Prepare the EFI: Open OCLP, go to Settings, and ensure 'Show Boot Picker' is enabled. Click Build and Install OpenCore and target your internal SSD's EFI partition.
- Download Sonoma: Use the OCLP app to download the full macOS Sonoma installer.
- Create USB Installer: Use OCLP to flash the installer to a USB drive. Important: Do not format your internal drive; just run the installer over the existing macOS partition.
- Boot and Install: Restart, hold Option, select EFI Boot, then select Install macOS Sonoma. Follow the prompts to upgrade the existing partition.
- Post-Install: Once in Sonoma, open OCLP and run Post-Install Root Patch to restore graphics acceleration and Wi-Fi.
Note: Your BootCamp partition will remain untouched. You can still switch to Windows by holding the Option key at startup or via the OpenCore picker.
Original Question: "iMac end 2014 Big Sure with Bootcamp already set"
Hello, as above I have this machine.
I’d like to go on macOS 14 at least, but if I do it I’ll need to re-do everything from the start with bootcamp aswell?
It will be a pain
