Resolving Graphics Performance Issues in Sequoia
Lag in Adobe Illustrator and 'red bar' glitches on an iMac 17,1 (Late 2015) are usually due to the way macOS Sequoia handles the AMD graphics kexts in conjunction with OCLP.
Resolution Steps:
- Clean Root Patch: Open OCLP, click Post-Install Root Patch, select Revert Root Patches, reboot, and then install them fresh. Repeating the install over existing patches can cause driver conflicts.
- Adobe Settings: In Illustrator/Photoshop, go to Preferences > Performance and try toggling GPU Performance off. If the lag stops, the issue is with the Metal driver emulation.
- Reduce Motion: In Accessibility settings, enable Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency. This significantly lightens the load on the legacy GPU drivers.
- OCLP Nightly: If the issue persists, try the latest OCLP 3.0.x Nightly build, which contains specific improvements for Sequoia graphics.

 | A few days ago, I successfully installed Sequoia 15.7.7 using OCLP. However, it’s running slowly. Adobe programs never work properly—they’re literally lagging. Illustrator is performing incredibly poorly. Even Launchpad doesn’t have the smooth animations it should. What do you think the problem is? And yes, I’ve applied the rootpatch a few times.
