Hiding macOS Update Notifications on Ventura

If you are happily running macOS Ventura on your older Mac (like the 2015 MacBook Air) via OCLP, but System Settings keeps prompting you to install an unsupported major update like macOS Tahoe, you can hide these notifications using a terminal command.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Turn Off Automatic Updates: First, ensure you have gone to System Settings > General > Software Update, clicked the 'i' icon next to Automatic Updates, and disabled 'Check for updates' and 'Download new updates when available'.
  2. Clear the Notification Badge: Open the Terminal application (found in Applications > Utilities).
  3. Enter the Command: Type the following command exactly as shown and press Return:
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences AttentionPrefBundleIDs 0
  4. Restart the Dock: To apply the changes immediately, type killall Dock in Terminal and press Return. Your screen will briefly flash as the Dock reloads.
  5. Re-check Settings: The red notification badge on the System Settings icon should now be gone. Note that opening the Software Update pane manually may cause the badge to reappear, requiring you to run the command again.

Original Question: "My upgrade to Ventura was successful! But, how do I get Settings to STFU about Tahoe?"

My upgrade to Ventura was successful! But, how do I get Settings to STFU about Tahoe?

I'm well aware that Tahoe is unsupported. I keep getting notices about it left and right on Reddit as I type. The issue I'm having is that when I went to the update tab to turn automatic updates off (to make sure it wouldn't install itself), the stupid settings app gained a notification dot that won't go away. It'll keep telling me about the upgrade I won't be able to get. Is there anything I can do to at least try and hide it?

(The model is a 2015 11" MacBook Air. It still runs laps around any modern netbook! Just looking into a new battery atm.)
