[Intel HD530] Black screen on boot

I've been trying to get the integrated GPU working on my Surface Pro 4 (Skylake i5), using this guide.

I've tried a range of different `id-platform-id`s - 1912, 1916, and 191B.

When my computer boots (verbose flag enabled), the boot log shows fine, and when it gets to the point where the Apple logo and progress bar should show, the screen just goes black (and the backlight stays on).

Has anyone else had this issue? Why's it happening?
