How to Fix Random hang on boot, could be VirtualSMC?

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

Random hang on boot, could be VirtualSMC?

I'm dual booting a DELL XPS 7590 (i7-9750H - UHD 630) . Mojave and Windows 10 with Clover 5119. Kext are as follows.

AppleALC.kext, CPUFriend.kext, CPUFriendDataProvider.kext, FakePCIID_Intel_HDMI_Audio.kext, Lilu.kext, NoTouchID.kext, NVMeFix.kext, Sinetek-rtsx.kext, SMCBatteryManager.kext, SMCDellSensors.kext, SMCLightSensor.kext, SMCProcessor.kext, SMCSuperIO.kext, USBInjectAll.kext, VirtualSMC.kext, VoodooI2C.kext, VoodooI2CHID.kext, VoodooPS2Controller.kext, WhateverGreen.kext

I'm no expert so I don't know what could be the cause, but by searching online someone was saying that some part of these errors are sometimes related to VirtualSMC. What do you think?
