How to Fix Problems with keyboard input on Big Sur laptop installation
This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Prerequisites
- Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
- Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.
Fix Steps
- Check your ACPI patches (SSDTs) for battery and trackpad (e.g., VoodooI2C, SMCBatteryManager).
- Ensure you have applied the correct IRQ patches if audio or trackpad is missing.
- Perform an NVRAM reset after modifying SMC-related kexts.
Verification
- Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.
Original Question:
In big Sur, the keyboard doesn't work. I have a ps2 keyboard and an i2c touchpad. The touchpad works but the keyboard doesn't. When I went through open core install guide, I added the VoodooPS2, VoodooI2C and VoodooI2CHID kexts but now I am not sure if this a proper configuration for my ps2 keyboard and I2c touchpad. Is there a prescribed set of kexts for my configuration?
