How to Fix Touchpad won't work in Catalina or Big Sur installer (Opencore 0.6.8)

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Boot with -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 to identify the exact kernel panic.
  2. Validate your config.plist using ocvalidate.
  3. Ensure your EFI matches the Dortania guide specifications for your CPU generation.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

The cursor just sits in the upper left corner and I can't move it at all. The keyboard works fine, as I'm able to use the arrow/tab keys to navigate some of the menu.

The touchpad is an ELAN/I2CHID device, and I have VoodooI2C.kext and VoodooI2CHID.kext in the kext folder.
