How to Fix YouTube audio stuttering except in Safari
This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Prerequisites
- Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
- Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.
Fix Steps
- Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
- Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
- Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.
Verification
- Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.
Original Question:
This is the only issue bugging me to use my OpenCore setup as a daily driver.
Some specs first: Intel i7-740QM, no iGPU, Quadro FX 1800M, acceleration enabled, running Catalina. Problem reproducible on Mojave and High Sierra.
Basically is that Safari plays YouTube smooth, but Firefox and Chrome always have audio stuttering. Safari use H264, so I switched Firefox to H264 but also stutter. Force hardware acceleration on Firefox and Chrome but also same issue. It just stutter, no matter what the video resolution is. And generally, the video footage is unaffected, only the audio is stuttering.
Seeking for idea on what's the problem… since Safari works…
