How to Fix Upgrading drive tips?

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Boot with -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 to identify the exact kernel panic.
  2. Validate your config.plist using ocvalidate.
  3. Ensure your EFI matches the Dortania guide specifications for your CPU generation.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

Original Question:

I've finally decided to upgrade from my 256GB SSD boot drive to a 2TB one. It's been a long time since I've done any kind of update or upgrade, is there any kind of precautions I should take? Or is it as simple as cloning my 256GB drive (I'd be using SuperDuper! software to do this) over to the new 2TB drive, shutting down the computer, and then swapping them out?
