How to Fix 7700K temps too high? Also strange faint noise

This mini-guide provides a structural approach to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Prerequisites

  • Confirm your hardware specifications (CPU, GPU, Motherboard).
  • Ensure you have a bootable recovery USB and backup your EFI.

Fix Steps

  1. Check if your GPU requires WhateverGreen or specific boot-args (e.g., agdpmod=pikera).
  2. Ensure Metal acceleration is fully supported for your macOS version.
  3. Update Lilu and WhateverGreen to the latest versions.

Verification

  • Reboot and verify if the functionality is restored and stable under typical usage.

OpenCore running macOS Monterey and RX6600. Are these idle temps normal for an i7-7700K?

My CPU fan speed seems to fluctuate when I boot into macOS, and I get a strange almost soft squealing noise from inside the computer case.

Yet when I dual boot into Windows 10 it seems more stable, and no strange soft wining sound.

I just replaced my SF600 with a SF750 due to the motor on the old PSU making too much noise from the bearing. Now that the noise is gone I can hear a soft squealing noise coming from inside the case. But only when I boot into macOS? Windows doesn't do this and behaves normally. I’m going to assume it’s not the brand new PSU, so is that noise most likely coming from the motherboard or is it hard to say for sure?
