Resolving OpenCore Boot Failures and Black Screens
Hitting a black screen, boot loop, or a prohibited sign (stop sign) during macOS installation indicates a bootloader configuration mismatch or corrupted NVRAM.
Recovery Steps:
- Reset NVRAM: In the OpenCore picker, choose the Reset NVRAM option. This resolves most invalid boot path loops.
- Verify SATA Configuration: Ensure your SSD/HDD is formatted as APFS using GUID Partition Table. MBR disks will trigger prohibited signs.
- Use USB Hub: If the installer hangs, plug your USB drive into a USB 2.0 port or use a simple USB hub to resolve driver handshake errors.
