Upgrading iMac 2015 5K to macOS Sonoma/Sequoia

The Late 2015 iMac 5K is a fantastic machine, but its Fusion Drive can be a major bottleneck for newer OCLP versions of macOS.

Safe Upgrade Strategy:

  1. Full Backup: Use Time Machine to back up your entire life. OCLP is stable, but the Fusion Drive structure is complex.
  2. Fusion Drive Health: Before upgrading, open Terminal and run diskutil list. Ensure your Fusion Drive isn't "split".
  3. OCLP Installation: Build the OCLP EFI and install it to the SSD portion of the Fusion Drive (usually the smaller disk) for faster boot times.
  4. Performance Tip: Newer macOS versions (Ventura+) are heavily optimized for pure SSDs. If you find the Fusion Drive too slow, consider booting from an External USB-C/Thunderbolt SSD instead.
  5. Root Patches: Apply the Skylake and AMD Graphics patches in OCLP to keep the 5K display running smoothly.

Looking to Update IMac Late 2015 5k

Hi there!

Just looking for some advice :)

I also have a 1terabite Fusion Drive,

Should I be ok to try to go for the latest version? How often to problems arise? this computer has been my baby and I have my whole life on it haha so I just want to make sure I have the specs necessary

I installed all the extra memory and Fusion Drive like ten years ago when I first got this computer so idk if I should update it more or something?

Anyways thanks so much for your help
