Reverting to Native macOS on MacBook Pro 2017
If you wish to remove OCLP and return to the last officially supported OS (macOS Ventura) on your 2017 MacBook Pro, you must follow a specific sequence to clear the OpenCore environment.
Downgrade Procedure:
- Reset NVRAM: This is the most important step. Shut down and hold
Cmd + Opt + P + Rfor at least two chimes. This removes the OpenCore boot variables. - Internet Recovery: Hold
Shift + Opt + Cmd + Ron boot. This forces the Mac to load the version of macOS it shipped with or the closest available (usually Ventura or Monterey). - Wipe Drive: Once in Recovery, open Disk Utility, select the top-level SSD, and click Erase. Format as APFS with GUID Partition Map.
- Reinstall: Exit Disk Utility and select Reinstall macOS. It should now proceed past the initial check without OCLP interference.
