Resolving Root Patch Installation Failures on Sonoma
When Root Patches fail to reinstall after being reverted, it's usually because the system volume is locked by a pending update or a corrupted snapshot.
The Comprehensive Fix:
- Check for Hidden Updates: Go to System Settings > Software Update. Even if it says "Up to date", click Advanced and ensure nothing is downloading.
- Safe Mode Attempt: Boot into Safe Mode (hold Shift). Open OCLP and try installing the patches there. Safe Mode disables many background locks.
- Re-build EFI: Sometimes the OCLP app needs to refresh the bootloader. Click Build and Install OpenCore again, reboot, and then try the root patches.
- Disk Space: Ensure you have at least 30GB of free space. Patching creates a new system snapshot, which requires significant overhead.

 | *After updating to Sonoma 14.8.7 It would boot up fine, but opening, closing and dragging windows was so slow it was unusable - even with Reduce Transparency and Reduce Motion switched on, and the Wallpaper switched to a static image.
